We are delighted that the iconic name of Hilton Newcastle Gateshead remains central to all that NUSC does in 2018.

Championship teams will again be welcomed into the luxury of the hotel as their base for what are now some of Europe's most talked about cricket championships.

NUSC are proud to adhere and share with The Hilton Family of Hotels founder Conrad Hilton’s philosophy that; “It has been, and continues to be, our responsibility to fill the earth with the light and warmth of hospitality.” The company puts a name to its unique brand of service that has made it the best known and most highly regarded hotel company: be hospitable®. The philosophy is shared by all nine brands in the Hilton Family of Hotels and is the inspiration for its overarching message of kindness and generosity.

Welcome to NUSC Cricket

NUSC Cricket based in the North East of England is a unique amateur volunteer run organization integrating leading club cricketers at academic institutions across the North with the local cricket community.

It combines pastoral, academic, and social development support with the opportunity to challenge some of Europe's top sides and raise money for a charity which in 2018 is ABF The Soldiers Charity and DH Thomas Foundation for Young People.

NUSC is fortunate to have a coaching staff in 2018-9 including former county pro players Ian Hunter and Ash Patel, Scotland International Captain Kyle Coetzer, ECB Level 3 coaches Ronny Boyd, Ian Smith and Sports Psychology specialist Adam Nicol.

Previous coaches have included Durham and England Star Scott Borthwick and Mark Davies, Bangladesh International Rajin Saleh, Pakistan National Coach Umar Rashid, Durham CCC Head Coach Jon Lewis and stars players Phil Mustard, Ben Harmison, Gordon Muchall, Durham life member Ash Patel, Yorkshire’s Simon Guy and Liam Plunkett, Cricket Ireland/Netherlands bowling coach Neil Killeen, Mumbai star Usman Malvi and Delhi Daredevils' Jeremy Snape to name just a few.

We hold no trials to join the club.  Instead, each player is recommended to us by coaches, managers, scouts or our own club members, all experienced observers who watch and play matches around the country or countries.

Talent alone does not make a successful member.  We need players who adopt a ‘can do, will do’' attitude while they are with us.  Cricket Australia star Will Bosisto flew back to play for NUSC during our ‘Hilton Newcastle Gateshead Tri Nations’ triumph in August 2013, then again in our 10th birthday series win over Ireland in July 2016 which sets the“can do, will do” standard for all future intakes to match.

NUSC is proud to be main sponsored by Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, with support from Kookaburra-Reader Ltd, and Puma's license apparel suppliers across Europe.  We would also like to acknowledge the kindness of all those who support our tournaments and who donate their assistance, goods or services to the club but wish to stay anonymous.

How can I join the NUSC adventure?

IITV News ran a feature on Iain Nairn selection as Vice Captain of England PD and his training at NUSC on their Saturday night prime time TV slot.  With great thanks to Clare Montgomery, the film can be viewed by clicking HERE.

If you have the same “can do, will do attitude” as Iain and want to come on the adventure that is NUSC then we want to hear from you.  Intake is every September. For 2019-2020 any interested parties should register such by August 20th, 2019 by emailing the club at

If you are an overseas student here for the “summer” season like Will Bosisto, then please email us at and we will be delighted to see if we can link you up with the squad to develop your experience while in the UK.
